A trigger is an event, schedule or user action that starts an automation.
What does this mean in practice?
Before building a workflow, define when it should start and whether it should respond to every event or only to selected cases.
Example use case
A new form response starts a request-handling process. Another workflow may check for requests awaiting a decision at a scheduled time.
Things to consider
Include protection against processing the same item more than once. Changes made by the workflow itself should not unnecessarily trigger the same actions again.
